Eight hours of Advanced Training is required annually to maintain TMN certification. Advanced Training helps Master Naturalists expand their knowledge in specific areas. To earn advanced training hours, a program must meet the guidelines of the TMN program:
- The program must be interactive. This could include a Q&A or group discussion of the topic.
- The training must promote learning or development of skills needed to volunteer as a Texas Master Naturalist.
- The training must be Texas-related.
- Advanced training opportunities are listed on the CAMN Calendar. There is also a list of pre-approved advanced training opportunities. Generally, training events hosted or presented by a chapter partner organization do not need to be pre-approved.
All new advanced training opportunities must be submitted in writing and be pre-approved before the training occurs. Failure to request pre-approval could result in denial of training hours if they do not meet CAMN guidelines.
CAMN Chapter Meetings
The Monthly CAMN Chapter meetings have presentations that will generally count for one hour of Advanced Training.
TMN Tuesdays
On the Second Tuesday of each month at the noon hour (12:00pm Central Standard Time), the TMN State Office offers an hour-long virtual advanced training event – which will sometimes including some fantastic new and returning guest speakers. Watching recorded TMNTuesday’s is valid for Advanced Training hours, however, only within the calendar year that the presentation is offered.
